Tigo Zanzibar Music Awards 2008. (Alhaj Goya)
Alhaj Goya.
popularly known for his song "Hali ya Pemba" which was reportedly 'censored' by Government 'authorities'; poses with his prize March this year.
some of the verses of Hali ya Pemba;
Hali ya Pemba miji isha fifia jamani,
Si Wete, Chake wala Mkoani
Miji haipo kama zamani,
Ni kwanini?
The towns in Pemba island is in shambles
Neither Wete, Chake nor Mkoani is any better
The towns are no longer like what they used to be,
why?
Karafuu za kwangu mwenyewe
Serikali wao ndo wanunuzi,
bei wao wenyewe wajipangia,
Wala hili zao halijanadiwa
The cloves are mine
The government the sole buyers
It sets the prices arbitrarily
Tuwekeeni maji na umeme wenye uhakika
Ili wawekezaji waje Pemba kuwekeza
Pesa mlizouza mmenunulia silaha?
Maana hizi tumeziona
We want reliable tap water and electricity
So as to attract investors to Pemba
Did you buy weapons with the money you got from our cloves?
Yes, we have seen the weapons!
Awamu iliyopita Zanzibar
Kwa Pemba ilikuwa mashaka
Huu ni ukweli usofichika
Ila umefichwa
The previous government phase
did nothing to Pemba
This is the naked truth
Only that some people are trying to hide it

Tigo Zanzibar Music Awards 2008. (The Akhenatons)
Akhenaton family, a group of youthful musicians in Zanzibar was founded in 2005 uniting young Zanzibari musicians (Kizazi Kipya). The birth of the family was spearheaded by David Murphy (DotCom) so as to create opportunities for the artists and increase team work and the integrity on the lyrics.
After a long struggle in music industry, their song Amka Africa was first nominated in 2007 in Kenya Awards in the category ‘Best Video Tanzania’ but they were not successful.
In 2008 according to the airwaves and fans, Akhenaton Family is the only group in Zanzibar that has managed to create a relatively different sound, team work and performance after the release of their 2008 collection (Jibu, On the Air). They also work together with several talents within the isles and this has inspired a lot of youths to develop their talents through the Akhenaton family spells.

RAISING VOICES, NO FAVOUR, IT'S A RIGHT
Traditionally women among the Maasai are reported to have been greatly marginalized. For example, they were not allowed to stand up and speak their concerns in a meeting. If the issues is that pressing, a woman had to support herself on her knees as sign of respect for men (and stand up like men do), then she could humbly speak.
However, Ngodi (pictured right) said things were getting better. "We demand our rights. We can now speak whether they like it or not.Its our right." Said Ngodi in Lobbying and Advocacy Training at Namanga. The training was organized by MVIWAMO (a net work for small farmers and pastoralists' groups in Monduli & Longido)

Mama Salma Kikwete aigwe.

Subject: Re: [wanazuoni] JUU YA LUGHA
Wanazuoni,

Mama Salma Kikwete aigwe.(Reaction)
Amani ya Mwenyezi Mungu iwe juu yenu Wanazuoni.
Dada Catherine nashukuru kwa mawazo yako ambayo nayeheshimu, ila bado
hujanishawishi.
naifahamu kidogo. Machemba, Mkwawa, Milambo nk, walipambana na
wavamizi bara bara, je hawa walijulia wapi Kiingereza?? . Nyerere
alikuwa mstari wa mbele kuona Kiswahili kinakua, ndiye Nyerere
ninayemfahamu. Alijitahidi kukiweka Kiswahili kwenye ramani ya
dunia.
Ahsante.

Mama Salma Kikwete aigwe.
Bungeni ndiyo kabisaaaa.
Mungu kibariki Kiswahili. Mungu Ibariki Tanzania.

Je yaweza kuwa kweli kuwa 'Hata ukioga, mjini huendi?'
Things are not easy to the people of this part of the country. Even when they try to transport their pots so as to open them up for better market, they are constrained by unfriendly transport infrastructure. Some times they end up into huge losses like in this case when the truck overturned. You can imagine on your own as to what happened to their pots.
